Uncharted 4 Easter Egg Discovered in HBO’s The Last of Us Episode 2 – It’s practically a given that any video game adaptation would contain a few allusions to the original work that will allow players to channel their inner Leonardo DiCaprio. Even though we’ve just seen the first two episodes of HBO’s The Last of Us, this has been the case. The latest episode of the series, which has been quick to incorporate as many references as it can, includes a small homage to another of Naughty Dog’s well-known games, Uncharted 4.
We won’t spoil anything if you haven’t watched the show yet, but Tess, one of the main characters, possesses a lighter that she occasionally uses. I’m trying to be as vague as I can here. Tess’ lighter may have looked a little familar to those who have played Uncharted 4 because it shares the same design as Sam Drake’s lighter, which was also featured in the Uncharted film. It’s a lighter that moves around quite a bit.
Of course, this isn’t the only allusion to a Naughty Dog game in the show; Episode 1 also makes a sweet little mention to The Last of Us Part 2. Ellie and Dina start chatting about Joel about halfway through the game and how Ellie intends to ask him to watch a movie with her. Curtis and Viper 2 is the film in question, and Ellie says it’s Joel’s favourite. As a cute allusion to the game’s sequel, Sarah buys Curtis and Viper 2 in the episode to celebrate Joel’s birthday.

In related news, it was just made public that HBO’s The Last of Us originally intended to provide more background information on Tess. There was a script that would have revealed that Tess had an infected husband and son. Although we don’t know why it was omitted, getting a sneak glance at what might have been is really cool.
