Twitch in Hot Water: Streamers Boycott Platform Over Controversial Hogwarts Legacy Ad Campaign! – As the Twitch platform launches an almost inevitable Hogwarts Legacy ad campaign, streamers are urging a boycott. The Harry Potter series is not being supported by other content producers, who have chosen to turn off their adverts for the length of the campaign.
This happened after one creator stopped streaming while the campaign was running after learning that Hogwarts Legacy advertisements were ostensibly disrupting her shows. She is urging Twitch to sever the relationship with JK Rowling since it promotes a product from which she personally profits, in addition to supporting the boycott.
Nikatine, a Twitch user, got aware of the adverts on Saturday and started the campaign to pull streamers off the site while the Hogwarts Legacy offer was active.
“Hogwarts Legacy is a product ultimately funding JK Rowling, whose well-documented stance on trans people remains firmly rooted in a callous disregard for human life,” says Nikatine. “Therefore, I will not be streaming to Twitch while this ad campaign remains active. I call on every streamer to join me in taking a stance against bigotry.”

Smaller content providers have responded, stating that they will join the boycott or at the very least disable their adverts while the ad is playing on Twitch. Of course, if other, bigger broadcasters joined the boycott, the platform would truly feel the effects, but none have made any comments so far.

Twitch broadcasters who want to refute JK Rowling’s transphobia have responded in a variety of ways. While some people have chosen to completely ignore the game, others, like political streamer Hasanabi, have recommended playing it live while also raising money for a charity that supports transgender people.
Twitch has not yet addressed the criticism this ad campaign has received, and it is unclear if it will. Twitch has been approached by CSM for comment.
