Top Shows on Netflix Shutting Off? – Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of Netflix, has replied to the criticism the streaming service has been receiving for axing a number of its shows, frequently after just one season. Over the past few months, a growing number of shows have been put on the chopping block, with many fan favourites terminating early.

Customers of Netflix have been vocal about their dissatisfaction; one need only look at Twitter to observe the countless campaigns launched to try and resurrect programmes. The head of streaming has since reiterated his positions and provided an explanation for why these shows would be cancelled.

According to Sarandos, “We have never cancelled a successful show”. “Many of these programmes had good intentions, but they have very large budgets while speaking to a relatively small audience.
You must be able to speak to a small audience on a small budget and a large audience on a large budget in order to be successful. You can do that for all time if you do it well.”

Instead of considering the reviews of its episodes, Netflix typically bases its judgements on the total number of hours that each series has been seen. This is measured against factors like the cost of producing the series and its ranking on the Top 10 lists on the streaming service.
While certain programmes, like Stranger Things, The Crown, and The Witcher, continue to air, other programmes are cancelled far sooner. The Bastard Son & the Devil Himself, Warrior Nun, 1899, and Fate: The Winx Saga are just a few of the recent cancellations.
