Within “Ladies of the Wood” lies the mission. If you chance to find the tree before the “Ladies of the Wood” event, you can complete the mission before it happens. There is a bad spirit in the tree in this story (which might not be so evil after all depending on your point of view). Enter the cave, then scuba dive between the roots. Get back up and continue exploring the cave. A spooky tree spirit is identified as the voice’s origin.
Whispering Hillock’s Choices and Results
If you wish to save the tree, you’ll need a black wild horse, a raven’s feather, and the remains of a woman. Even while it may seem like a lot, you already have Johnny’s feather from the raven’s nest, and it’s simple to locate both the woman’s corpse and the horse. To locate the woman’s remains, simply exit the cave and follow your marker. From there, follow the marker to an open field where a herd of wild horses can be found. Use the Axii sign to tame one of the horses as you approach them slowly. To liberate the spirit, ride the horse back to the tree spirit.

The tree will release the kids in Crookback Bog if you do this AFTER beginning the main quest “Ladies of the Wood,” upsetting the Crones and putting Gran in danger.
This will prevent the tree from fulfilling its promise to save the kids if you do it before beginning “Ladies of the Wood.” Gran won’t be in danger, however, and the tree spirit will be set free. The tree will nonetheless exact retribution on the community of Downwarren.
It should be noted that completing this quest AFTER beginning “Ladies of the Wood” will have a negative effect on your ability to locate Anna, the Bloody Baron’s wife. Anna won’t be in the same kind of danger if the quest is completed PRIOR to “Ladies of the Wood.”
The tree will throw up a shield and call three endreagas that will attack if you decide to kill it. Kill the enormous bugs, then scream at the tree ghost. It will re-establish its defence. To put an end to the tree spirit, repeat once more. Gran and the community of Downwarren will benefit from the Crones’ satisfaction, but the children won’t.

It should be noted that this choice will positively impact the outcome of the search for the Bloody Baron’s wife, Anna.
The fate of the Baron and his wife, the orphans of Crookback Bog, and the adjacent settlement of Downwarren will be affected by your decision on this quest and the side quest “Return to Crookback Bog,” which is part of the main quest. After completing this quest, you can move on to “Ladies of the Wood.”
PS: You must complete this quest before beginning the mission “Ladies of the Wood” if you want to save Gran (and consequently, the Bloody Baron) and the Whispering Hillock.
