Chris Pratt in super mario bros : As yet, Chris Pratt is yet to reveal his Mario voice for his upcoming film, but we do know it will be “unlike anything you’ve ever heard.” All this waiting is getting some fans a little antsy, and one has decided to channel his anxiety into a creative project.
Super Mario Bros. has been recreated in Unreal Engine by Re-Imagined Games (via Nintendo Life). It would not be all that notable, except that Matt Damon is being used as Mario’s model instead of Chris Pratt. Also included are realistic-looking models of Koopas, Goombas, and Piranha Plants.
Unlike the first Mario game, this game is fully 3D. It isn’t really obvious until you get to level 1-3 because the levels remain mostly linear and faithful to the original game. However, level 1-3 is where Pratt-Mario must leap onto several platforms guarded by red Koopas.
“I am a lifelong Nintendo fan, and I’m very excited for the Super Mario animated movie from Illumination and Nintendo,” writes Re-Imagined Games in the trailer. “So, I decided to make some sort of fan project while we’re all waiting for a trailer. But, then I started to wonder what it would look like if Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jack Black, and Keegan-Michael Key, were actually these characters in a realistic mushroom Kingdom. That seemed like an incredibly fun idea, and that’s why I’m attempting to make this game.”
Although Re-Imagined Games did not have any prior game development experience, they were able to learn the basics through online tutorials. When all is said and done, they hope to produce a “truly great action game”.
Here is a gameplay trailer that provides an overview of the first four levels. As a placeholder, Bowser is currently represented by a large rectangle, but he will eventually be played by Jack Black.
As part of yet another crossover that most of us did not see coming, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope recently released a trailer that raises questions about Rosalina’s role in the game.
