Starting A Daedra’s Best Friend

his quest’s main goal is to reunite a stray dog named Barbas with his owner. For you to start this quest, you must be at least level 10.

After that, proceed to Falkreath. A guard will ask you if you have seen what appears to be a stray dog outside of town. He will direct you to contact Lod, a blacksmith, who will give you the assignment of capturing this dog. You’ll also receive some raw meat to use as a lure for the dog.

You can convince Lod to give you a portion of the reward beforehand. Although it isn’t much, it is gold.

Start your search by moving south from here. The dog that everyone is referring to will eventually be found, and it turns out that dog has a lot to say as well. Before asking for your assistance in resolving a dispute he had with his master, he will introduce himself as Barbas.

You’ll need to put in more effort if you choose to travel with Barbas. The trip is lengthy, and Barbas is prone to getting sidetracked.

You’ll discover on your excursion that Falkreath is a long way from Haemar’s Shame. You’ll have to cope with any adversaries you come across, including at least two different bandit encampments, along the route. Fortunately, Barbas is unkillable, so you don’t need to worry about keeping him safe.

Although you won’t be able to keep the axe if you choose the Masque, you will be able to complete the Oblivion Walker achievement and leave with the peace of mind that no dogs were harmed.

You cannot obtain the achievement if you select the Axe.

Rueful Axe Vs The Masque of Clavicus Vile

The two items’ statistics and other information are as follows:

A true Daedric artefact is not the Rueful Axe. Despite being the slowest melee weapon in the game, this axe deals 20 points of stamina damage and has a damage rating of 22. It does not get any Smithing advantages but can be improved with an Ebony Ingot.

True Daedric artefacts include the Masque of Clavicus Vile. Everyone you encounter will respect you for it. Prices will increase by 20%, while the Speech skill will advance by 10%. Additionally, it speeds up Magicka’s regeneration by 5%.
