    Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy gets VR support from modders

    Star Wars Jedi Knight Mods: A modder by the name of DrBreef recently released a trailer for a VR port of the perennially popular Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy game. While the project is still a long way from completion, the progress being made is already impressive.

    This news comes from the community known as Flat2VR, which has released a nearly minute-long preview of Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. There is a great look at the famous Hoth level as well as some great lightsaber combat.

    Along with two other modders, BeggyG and Bummser, DrBreef is currently working on porting the game to VR. Collectively, the group is known as Team Beef, which was established in 2019. Team Beef explains on Patreon that at the time, DrBeef already had some ports under his belt, but he began work on the first Oculus Quest port of Half-Life. According to the website, native Oculus Quest ports of the following games have been released and downloaded literally millions of times and still average approximately 370,000 downloads per year. A number of different games are listed on the website, including Quake and Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

    “The team is comprised of DrBeef, BaggyG, and Bummser and has not stopped developing yet,” the group remarks. “More recently, they have tackled Unity ports and are currently working on future ports of Wrath: Aeon of Ruin, Bendy and the Ink Machine, Star Wars Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast, and Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy.”

    Raven Software developed Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy back in 2003. Taking place two years after Star Wars Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast, the story follows Jaden Korr, a student at the eponymous Jedi Academy under the supervision of Luke Skywalker and Kyle Katarn. In this game, players are tasked with investigating a group of Dark Jedi called the Disciples of Ragnos. It is up to them to decide whether to remain on the Light Side or switch over to the Dark Side.

    “Forge your weapon and follow the path of the Jedi,” the official description reads. “Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy is the latest installment of the highly acclaimed Jedi Knight series. Take on the role of a new student eager to learn the ways of the Force from Jedi Master Luke Skywalker.”
