Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song – Sif Starting Walkthrough
Sif Starting Walkthrough – Sif is probably going to be your starting character in Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song if you’re a fan of Norse mythology or Viking history. She is a fierce warrior from Valhalla who hails from the Shiverlands in the Mardias world’s south.
Every starting character has unique obstacles to overcome, but Sif happens to have one of the more complicated starting quests because of how skillful you’ll need to be to avoid unnecessary conflicts and handle challenging confrontations. But we have all the information you’ll require.
Although Sif starts the game alone, there is no reason you shouldn’t think of the Valhallan Warrior you can hire from Gato’s Village as a member of her retinue; after all, it isn’t appropriate to take on her scenario without first hiring him. Additionally, you’ll meet Albert, another key character, midway through Sif’s story.
The starting skill set for both Sif and the standard Valhallan Warrior is the identical, but Sif has stronger numbers overall, including a far more reasonable LP count of 12 as opposed to the warrior’s meagre four. Actually, the latter is merely there to first bulk out the party.
Sif can play the game as a Valhallan Warrior without any issues, although it’s worth mentioning that she’d make a strong candidate for the Legendary Warrior class.
It’s fantastic to have Albert along for the ride. He begins with the defensively oriented Frontier Guard class, which focuses on the fantastic Foil weapon class and is proficient in Shields. Additionally, he has some expertise in cosmology, which is cool and makes it simple and affordable for him to become an Imperial Knight. Although it’s not really feasible to have the Valhallan Warrior around for the long haul, Albert makes a fantastic friend.
Explore Gato’s Village after gaining control of Sif until you reach Gato’s cottage. To find out your mission—to rid the three caverns of monsters—speak to him. That is a heavy task, so go get some support.
Talk to the Valhallan Warrior at the pub on the left to hire him. Talk to the Minstrel after that and listen to him give you his tale. After hearing the tale, leave the establishment and come back; this time, chat to the minstrel again and let him sing for you until he tries to enter your party. He is a very helpful guy to have close by right now.
Make sure Sif has the First-Aid Kit and Smoke Bomb Pouch for some last-minute party adjustments; these will come in handy during the upcoming trials.
You can enter Shiverland once you leave Gato’s Village. Avoid all enemy interactions here as finishing too many fights may cause your Event Rank to increase too much, preventing you from accepting a few quite lucrative assignments once the world opens up. If you find yourself in a conflict, you can either retreat or use a smoke bomb to get out. The Minstrel has a lot of LP, is already rather bulky, and can be quickly re-hired if he dies at any tavern, so use Retreat largely on him because it costs LP to use.
If you’ve played Albert’s scenario, the caves you need to clear out are the identical ones. The one to the east is the one that is easier to tackle initially; get there by finding the arrow directly below Gato’s Village. You’ll discover a single immobile monster within; you only need to kill this one to finish the task; don’t waste your time trying to kill every creature in every cave.
Take on the west cave second; it’s marked on the map by the westernmost arrow. In order to manoeuvre more easily, play on the slowest speed option as there are some monsters to avoid. Save before you get close to the motionless flying creature because doing so will automatically start the combat.
Due to the high-damage attacks that are flying around, these first two encounters can be challenging. Focus on using Two-handed Sword attacks in the hopes that Sif learns Smash while treating any fallen allies with your First-aid Kit and Balm. Use this only to effectively eliminate adversaries once Sif learns Smash. Don’t stress over DP.
Return to Gato’s Village to take a nap at the inn and receive your LP and DP restored once you’ve cleaned up the east and west caves.
The south cave, the third cave, is the one that is the farthest away. Take the bottommost red arrow on the right after reaching the very bottom of the Shiverlands map. After arriving at a brief stretch of icy route, take the north exit and, on the following screen, turn left at the crossroads to get to the cave. To get to the miniboss in this cave, you must carefully navigate its many creatures, so take great caution.
Since the Peggy Chief has the most vicious attacks, eliminate it first. Utilize any damage-oriented skills you may have seen in passing and wait for a combo strike. When the fight is ended, take the treasure from the chests (Sif looks amazing with the Wing Amulet!). return to Gato’s Village after that.
To receive your reward, speak with Gato; after that, elude his hut. The young boy at the bottom of this slope will then tell you about a shipwreck.
Watch the ensuing cutscenes once you’ve left the village once more. Talk to the boy on the bed at Gato’s home again; this is Albert. Gato notifies you that the caves are once more infested, and it is up to you to deal with them. Take Albert’s help when he offers it!
The last quest and this one are virtually identical. Take down the slightly more powerful monsters at the conclusion of each of the three caverns by going there in the same sequence. The hardest miniboss by far is now in the south cave, which is actually a little bit longer than it was before.
The rematch against the Peggy Chief shouldn’t be too challenging as long as Sif, Albert, and the Minstrel have all shown signs of an attack talent in prior battles. Just make sure your DP is back on track before launching a full aggressive campaign. You might need to adopt a more cautious approach if they haven’t all developed strong Smash and Impact Slash abilities.
It’s time to return to the settlement after all three caves have been cleansed once more. Speak with Gato for more goodies and a tip on where to go next: Eugenstadt, which is now reachable from the Shiverlands’ southern exit. You will also receive the Dragon’s Eye, one of Sif’s jewels, as you attempt to flee, along with a magnificent Ring for her to wear.
The Next Steps
You can follow the Next Steps portion of our guide for Albert’s scenario with nearly no changes because Albert and Sif’s lives are so intertwined; just be aware that you won’t earn a reward for travelling to Crystal City and meeting Neidhart.
Keep in mind that you may have already reached Event Rank 3 and won’t be able to take on Unsettling Settlements, especially if you’re playing on Normal Event Rank growth.
