The Walking Dead’s spinoff – The production of Rick Grimes’ (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne Hawthorne’s (Danai Gurira) planned spinoff series for The Walking Dead is picking up steam, and Gurira has the images to prove it.

Gurira posted a couple of images of herself with Lincoln on Instagram. TWD Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple, who will be the showrunner for the duo’s spinoff series, was also present for this reunion. “The Walking Dead’s Spin-off for #Richonne. 2023. Preproduction is already well underway. We’re nearing our goal!” Gurira composed.

Beginning with Season 1 in 2010, Lincoln’s Rick Grimes serves as the lead character in AMC’s television version of Image Comics’ The Walking Dead. Beginning with Season 3 in 2012, Gurira joined the main cast of the show as Michonne, and she and Rick later developed a love bond.

At the end of Season 9 in 2018, Lincoln quit The Walking Dead, and Gurira did the same in Season 10 in 2020. In 2022, Season 11 of the long-running post-apocalyptic series came to an end.

Lincoln was originally set to play Rick Grimes again in The Walking Dead’s spinoff movie that would have been the first in a trilogy. The plan was altered to become a limited spinoff series starring Rick and Michonne.

The six-episode television series is slated to debut later this year. Gurira is attached to the untitled series as a writer in addition to its star. She collaborates with showrunner Gimple as a co-creator. As executive producers, Gurira and Lincoln are also involved.
