The majority of players are aware that Rayman experienced a brief hiatus between 2006 and 2013, largely as a result of the popularity of Rayman Raving Rabbids and its minigame focus. Most people are probably unaware that Raving Rabbids was originally intended to be Rayman 4, another 3D platformer like Hoodlum Havoc.

Rayman 4 Source Code Leaked Online – The majority of what we saw in the reveal trailer for Rayman 4 was changed and made into minigames for Raving Rabbids. Over the years, we’ve learned a few things about it, but it appears that the whole picture is going to emerge now that Rayman 4’s source code and editor have just been posted online.

Earlier today, RibShark, a Twitter user, eagerly tweeted, “HOLY SHIT RAYMAN 4 JUST LEAKED” to announce the breaking news. Although we don’t advise trying to find the link there, it appears that the leaks come from an older 4chan post from earlier in the week. Thankfully, RibShark has been sharing screenshots and videos from the build, starting with one showing Rayman standing next to a Teensie in an unrendered setting.

The riding mechanics are usable within the build, claims RibShark. Another evidence that Rayman 4’s cancellation was wrong was that it reportedly had a level called “Sphincter Cell” that seemed to take place… inside something, as RibShark demonstrated.

Rayman 4 Source Code Leaked Online – It’s interesting to note that the build also includes a few test levels, one of which is set within a huge Rabbid robot. The gameplay video demonstrates Rayman’s martial arts manoeuvres from the first trailer as well as an early model of his plunger pistol, which for some reason appears to be firing carrots in this instance.

Other Twitter users have already started searching through the files to see what they can find now that the source code is available for everyone to view. Rayman 4 was originally intended to have the nude Rayman skin that made its debut in Legends, according to Twitter user RaymanForSmash (keep fighting the good fight). It’s unclear how this would function in 3D without Rayman simply baring his ass the entire time, but I like it.

Rayman 4 Source Code Leaked Online – Another video posted by Twitter user TheZombieKiller depicts a test level that also appears to be set on a spaceship of some sort. In addition to early Rabbid models that resemble those in the trailer, we also get a closer look at more melee action and movement in the film. Rayman also has a chain ability, which was briefly demonstrated during the game’s reveal, demonstrating that some ideas did survive the rewrite.
