On4word, a YouTuber, recreated the full of Radiohead’s seventh studio album In Rainbows using only the game’s sound effects. It was made in some way. In addition to recreating every song from the 42-minute album, they did so with astonishing accuracy. There is a distinct Mario twang and sparkle, but Radiohead is still very much audible.

Radiohead’s In Rainbows – We begin with the 15 Step drum machine rhythms, which have been skilfully remade using the sounds of Mario 64. The melody of the song, which is performed by Thom Yorke in the original, is replaced by a synthesiser-like sound. The fact that on4word was able to replicate the song’s harmonies and minor flourishes is arguably more astounding than their ability to replicate the drum beat.

With its sense of openness, warmth, and jazzy blend, Nude’s mood may be beautifully recreated utilising the Mario 64 soundfont. It is that excellent. While on4word does struggle to replicate the song’s unique texture, they add an unexpected fruitiness to the track that gives the cover its own unique quality. Jumping ahead to Reckoner, I initially thought it might be difficult to recreate that song’s wide soundstage and depth because that track is known for its percussive echo and texture.
