Since their November 18 release, Game Freak’s new monster-collecting RPGs Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have been criticised for their objectively poor technical performance, which is only surpassed by the staggering amount of bugs. (At least one issue is beneficial; it makes it easier to find shiny Pokémon.) Some users are now asking Nintendo for refunds for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet because it is obvious that these two games are not ready for prime time.

The debut of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet was janky-assed. Framerates that stutter, awful graphics that suddenly appear, and characters and monsters cutting through one another are just a few of the drawbacks. Even Pokéballs can cause odd problems, such the background disappearing or the camera going crazy. The gameplay issues are so severe and seemingly never-ending that Scarlet and Violet have received the worst reviews of the entire series. Since Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s formal debut last Friday, November 18, customers have been requesting refunds for their digital purchases over on Reddit. And numerous people are reporting success.

On November 20, Redditor Hotdog Daddy wrote in the r/Pokémon forum, “I got a refund from the eshop last night of Violet after feeling the game is not in a state I feel acceptable for a AAA release.” “The rep actually told me that given the situation regarding the state of Pokémon S/V she would elevate my case to ensure the refund was approved. It was approved an hour later.”

One comment said, “Welcome to the refund team.” “Honestly, I hate that I even have to do this. However, we may perhaps experience some positive backlash. I might purchase the game secondhand if we have a good patch and updates. I won’t purchase a new Pokémon game until it is truly AAA tier until then.

[…] Many people will fight for this franchise till the day they pass away. However, could you genuinely say that this was their best attempt after looking at the game? I had to double-check to make sure I wasn’t unintentionally playing this on a toaster due to the FPS and graphics. They managed to get away with disabling so many wonderful features and quality-of-life elements, such as status animations, decisions regarding exp sharing, and battle animations, to name just a few.

“Since I complained about the state of this game, I can no longer be contributing to the issue,” they said. I received my money back and felt a lot better.

Several Redditors are expressing their personal experiences trying to secure refunds from Nintendo in these threads and quite a few others. While many report success, some indicate that Nintendo customer assistance needs to be worked with a little bit before agreeing to a refund.
