Pokémon GO’s Buddy Adventure is now available, and trainers around the globe are scrambling to learn everything it has to offer. Before Pokémon GO, trainers were limited in their ability to interact with their buddies. It is nothing more than picking a Pokémon and walking with it in order to collect candies. All of that has changed in a number of important ways.

Trainers can now feed, play with, battle alongside, and even walk alongside their buddy Pokémon on the map. For the feeding part, as you would expect, berries collected from Pokéstops serve as the main source of nutrition for your buddy. Additionally, you may have noticed a new food option, the Poffin. Unlike berries, Poffins must be purchased from Pokémon GO’s shop rather than found at Pokéstops.

There is a reason for this, and it is due to the tremendous effect a Poffin has on a buddy Pokémon. Buying just one will cost you 100 Pokécoins, and feeding it to a friend will escalate things significantly. Trainers will have to walk half as far to obtain candies, the number of hearts available to earn per day will double, and their buddy will remain full for a longer period of time.

If you are already familiar with the different moods a buddy Pokémon can exhibit, you will note that a Poffin has a similar effect to getting your buddy to be in its excited mood. The benefit of feeding them a Poffin is that it is far easier than grinding for that elusive mood. Obtaining the excited level without a Poffin requires 32 emotion points, and trust us when we tell you, it is not an easy task.

In terms of when it is worthwhile to use a Poffin, make sure it is on a day in which you intend to play Pokémon GO a great deal. You would be wasting your time and money by purchasing and cashing in a Poffin if you do not intend to play so much that you earn more than ten buddy hearts. In the event that you plan to devote an entire day to the game and use your buddy, feeding them a Poffin could mean that you could potentially win 20 hearts.
