1. Hang Out With The Other Trainer In Real Life
Two trainers must be within 40 kilometers of one another in order to trade with each other. Although that is a considerable distance, we do not recommend meeting up with strangers to trade Pokemon.
2. Pull Up The Other Trainer’s Profile In Pokemon Go

The first step is to locate the other trainer on your Friends list. On the main screen, click on your own face, then swipe to view your friends.
You will then be able to find and tap on the player that you wish to trade with. To begin trading, select the ‘Trade’ option from the menu. This must be done by both players.

What Are Special Trades & Lucky Trades In Pokemon Go?
Special trades and Lucky trades are the two types of trades that are unique.
We have a guide dedicated to explaining Lucky Trades, but they are essentially trades that result in extra-special Pokemon. For more information, including how to obtain them, please refer to the guide.
A Special Trade indicates that something about the trade is abnormal. There is a difference between the Pokemon you and your friend choose to trade. There are a number of circumstances that can lead to a Special Trade:
- One or both of the players will receive a Pokemon that they have not yet registered to their Pokedex
- This includes special forms of Pokemon, such as a Pikachu wearing a special hat, shiny Pokemon, a different weather variant of Castform, etc. If you have not already had an Eevee with a flower crown, and a friend tries to trade it for you, it will be a special trade.
- In the event that a Legendary Pokemon is being traded
- When trading a Shiny Pokemon
- In the event that an Ultra Beast is being traded
- When trading a Pokemon that has been purified

There are still some consequences associated with trading if you meet one of the circumstances outlined above. The first restriction is that you are only permitted to make one Special Trade per day. It is only during certain events that Niantic allows more than one game per day. The second requirement is that you must be good friends or better in order to make a special trade. Furthermore, a Special Trade requires a significant amount of Stardust.
How To Calculate The Stardust Cost Of A Trade In Pokemon Go
It costs you and your friend Stardust to trade Pokemon. The amount can range from 1,000,000 Stardust to as little as 100 Stardust! Trades will cost less Stardust if you have a high friendship level and the Pokemon is already registered in your Pokedex.
