Pikachu Pomeranian: Dog Dyed to Resemble Cartoon Character Sparks Controversy at NBA Games – Some people, especially those with the name Ash, might like catching everyone’s attention, but there are others who want to do the opposite. One such person is a dog owner who seems to desire to seize the world’s attention through their canine companion. If the owner hadn’t opted to colour the dog to look like Pikachu, complete with yellow fur and scarlet cheeks, the dog would have been a very typical dog.

The Pikachu-colored dog showed up courtside at a Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Miami Heat game last month. Once cameras located the animal, the announcers for the game were astounded by what they saw, and the Internet quickly made the pomeranian dog (in)famous. At a recent Chicago Bulls vs. Utah Jazz game, the owner put the dyed dog into the spotlight, making it once again visible in the NBA (via Dexerto).
Millions of people have watched the Pikachu-dyed dog video, but many have questioned the paint job, calling it a questionable way to treat a pet. The dog’s owner has also received a warning for colouring the pet.

The owner of the Pikachu-like Pomeranian dog was cited, according to Florida news site WPTV. Local rules forbid the ownership or sale of any animal that has been artificially or dyedly coloured. The dog’s owner, Erik Torres, may be subject to a $200 fine. Torres, however, plans to appeal, claiming that he used a secure dye container, that the dog is his pet, and that he has no intention of selling the dog. Moreover, he informed WPTV that he had no intention of erasing the colouring.

Whether the pomeranian is destined to become the greatest Pikachu dog that has ever existed or not, its owner certainly seems to appreciate the attention that his yellow-dyed pet attracts. Let’s hope that the animal is being cared for humanely when it is not in the spotlight of courtside cameras.
