Overwatch Fans Share Their Gripes with the Overwatch Lore: From Hanzo’s Brother Killing to Medieval Germany -The Overwatch series features a remarkable amount of lore around its whole cast of characters, despite the fact that it is primarily a multiplayer game (contrary to the wishes of fans). The game appears on the surface to be a typical hero shooter, but those who are more familiar with Overwatch are aware that each character has a rich past and occasionally intricate relationships with other characters that can be pieced together through in-game chat.
PLAYERS REACH LEVEL CAP IN FORSPOKEN DEMO: IS 50 HOURS ENOUGH TIME TO LEVEL UP IN THE FULL GAME?
With so many characters, Blizzard is certain to have made a mistake with a couple of them over the years, and Overwatch players have been airing their frustrations with some elements of the game’s overarching mythology. For instance, u/Xion194 introduces the discussion on the Overwatch subreddit by stating that they believe Hanzo’s “killing” of his brother Genji makes no sense because he murders him far more brutally than someone who is forced to kill their sibling would likely do.
Another user, u/apolsen, questions why Germany appears to have returned to the Middle Ages despite the world’s gains in technology and warfare, possibly in reference to the map Eichenwalde. They take issue with the game’s worldbuilding rather than a particular character. I suppose the nation ultimately came to the well-tested conclusion that “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

Then we have a few fans that wish some characters had had a little more lore than they have right now. One such person, according to u/amr jkl, should have had a little more development given that he is a scientist who has the ability to summon black holes, is Sigma. Another user asks Blizzard to bring back the romantic interest for Soldier 76, and u/pituparty wishes Lucio had more backstory than just his quick cereal box cameo.

It would be fantastic if Blizzard developed specific characters more in the future—possibly with the promised PvE mode—but it doesn’t appear that it will happen any time soon. The social media pages for Overwatch would prefer that you stare at Ramattra’s toenails right now, which is probably what some people would want.
