Outlander’s Star Sam Heughan “desperate to be an elf” in LOTR: The Rings of Power – Sam Heughan, the star of Outlander, has a dream part he’d like to play when he’s not playing Jamie Fraser.
The Scottish actor admitted he is “desperate” to get a role in the JRR Tolkien serial television adaption The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. The Prime Video series is currently in production for a five-season commitment after making its premiere earlier this year.
“I’m still desperate to be an elf or a dwarf,” Heughan shared in an interview with Audible (via MSN).
“So, if The Rings of Power are still casting, I’m available! I’ve even got a ginger wig, if they’re interested,” he joked.
The hero of the historical drama also spoke about his love of fantasy and in particular, Tolkien’s writing, demonstrating a strong bond with The Lord of the Rings. While Heughan’s sibling is named after an elf from the 1954 book, Samwise Gamgee, Frodo Baggins’ devoted friend, is the inspiration for Heughan’s own name.
“My family were big, big fans. My brother was named after an elf from Lord of the Rings,” he said.
“Not only that, but I grew up on the grounds of a derelict castle. So I think that fantasy element — I imagined myself as Robert the Bruce or King Arthur,” he added. “All of these things were great influences for me growing up.”
Even the epigraph of Heughan’s book, Waypoints, which was released in October, features a Tolkien quotation.
Heughan has landed a role in a contemporary rom-com starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Celine Dion while he works to make his elf gig a reality.
In the romantic drama Love Again, Chopra plays Mira Ray, a bereaved lady who deals with her fiancé’s death by sending love texts to his old phone. Mira is unaware that the phone number has been given to reporter Rob Burns (Heughan), who is intrigued by the messages and recruits the aid of superstar Celine Dion to meet Mira in person.
