Press kits have been sent out that hint that a new Crash Bandicoot game will be announced at The Game Awards, similar to how Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time and Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fuelled were announced.
According to YouTuber Canadian Guy Eh, press kits have been sent out announcing that It’s About Time will be available on Steam on October 18. Although it is exciting to have some news about Crash after so long, the press kit also teases that a new Crash Bandicoot game will be announced at The Game Awards on December 8.
Guy Eh, a Canadian, displayed the package that he received, which included a pizza box themed around Aku-Aku called “Aku-Aku’s Steam-In Pizza Shack,” a reference to It’s About Time on Steam. There is a sticker on the side of the box that reads, “Hungry for more? Try our new Wumpa Pizza for $12.08!”.
It is evident from the pricing of the pizza and its name that there is something being teased here. Clearly, 12.08 refers to December 8, the date of this year’s Game Awards. The name “Wumpa Pizza” is another hint that the game being revealed is the long-rumoured Wumpa League.
Wumpa League is reportedly a multiplayer take on Crash Bandicoot where players compete to earn Wumpa across a map. Although it was planned to be released around the same time as It’s About Time, it was delayed for unknown reasons, despite still being teased with a logo in-game and through several posts on Crash’s social media accounts. With most of Activision Bemployees placed on Call of Duty as a result of “frat boy” accusations and subsequent lawsuits, the project was presumed to have been cancelled.
According to insiders, it is still in development, although it has changed quite a bit since it was first revealed. Several reports on Wumpa League were published by insider Liam Robertson, who also leaked a poster for the game. Having a pizza called “Wumpa Pizza” is a clear nod to that game, so we should see it at The Game Awards.
