Infinity Ward and Activision are believed to be skipping 2023 when it comes to Call of Duty, meaning Modern Warfare 2 will have a two-year lifespan. According to Activision Blizzard’s Q2 2022 earnings report, the company will be releasing a new Call of Duty game next year, but this latest leak confirms that the “new premium content” refers to paid DLC.

The addition of additional missions and story to the campaign will be a series first. While Call of Duty has included DLC and add-ons in the past in the form of weapons and maps. A few aspects of Modern Warfare’s campaign were carried over to Warzone when it launched in 2020, but nothing that would qualify as DLC. In the event that it is successful, Call of Duty games may be released every other year rather than annually in the future.

There is continued concern about the future of Call of Duty on the part of PlayStation. It is not the launch schedule that concerns me, but the fear that Xbox will make the series an exclusive should Activision Blizzard be acquired.
