They are required to break the second moon seal. The Hunter begins the moon seal side quest after meeting Agatha Harkness and learning about the trials that are spread out over the Abbey’s Grounds.

The Air Rod is situated on a small pedestal overlooking a cliff’s edge northwest of Agatha’s Altar.

Fire Rod in The Abbey Grounds
The Fire Rod is located inside the Abbey, namely in the chapel on the south wing of the structure. It is situated close to some candles on a podium.

Water Rod in The Abbey Grounds
The lounge pool close to The Yard training area is where you may find The Water Rod. Look under the nearby bridge as you get at the pool to notice the rod concealed there.

Earth Rod in The Abbey Grounds
The Hunter’s Folly crypt contains the Earth Rod. It is the same place. The Hunter awoke at the start of the game, just as they were about to confront Blade. Use the “Open” Word of Power to unlock the crypt’s door when you arrive to gain entry. The Earth Rod is located within on a group of stones to your left.
