    Despite Stadia’s shutdown, cloud gaming is expected to grow by 74 percent

    Stadia‘s shutdown: Since the news of Google Stadia’s closure came out and (mostly) shocked everyone, the cloud gaming industry has been a hot topic. Despite one of the leading examples of cloud gaming shutting down, the industry as a whole appears to be growing despite the departure of a giant such as Stadia, according to a report.

    The data published by Newzoo (via Gamesindustry.biz) indicates that the market is expected to generate approximately $2.4 billion this year. Furthermore, the report estimates that the cloud gaming industry will grow by 74 percent over the next year, with 31.7 million consumers paying for cloud gaming services in the coming year.

    According to the report, Stadia’s shutdown will have a positive impact on the cloud gaming market. The report states, “The positive developments in the cloud gaming market that we analyze in this report, which support a bright future for the technology, do not disappear with Stadia’s closure.”

    According to Newzoo, Google refunding Stadia players is a good thing since the sentiment towards cloud gaming will not be adversely affected. It even predicts that the cloud gaming market will generate approximately $8.5 billion by 2025, despite the exit of a major player. As a result of Stadia’s exit, other players in the market like Amazon Luna, Nvidia GeForce Now, PlayStation Plus Premium, and Xbox Cloud Gaming are now in a position to compete for the scrambling Stadia users.

    Despite the report’s appearance that Stadia’s exit isn’t a major deal for the overall market, Stadia players are still scrambling to salvage years of hard work. As an example, an unfortunate Red Dead Online player has requested that Rockstar allow him to transfer his character to a different platform after almost 6,000 hours of play. Although some companies are already working on helping players with transfers, it is a truly chaotic situation, as they heard about the shutdown at the same time as the players.
