Now that James Gunn and Peter Safran are looking to start a new age of narrative for the DC Universe, it appears the sequel will join the likes of Superman & Lois, Titans, and Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler as one of the projects shelved by them.
Why couldn’t the Constantine sequel be a part of the Elseworlds tales Warner Bros. will presumably keep telling outside the DC Universe? It’s difficult to say, but we wouldn’t be surprised if Gunn and Safran have their own very distinct ideas for the Hellblazer that don’t involve making a continuation of a film that received middling reviews almost 20 years ago.
