    Dark Alliance team is developing a Triple-A Dungeons & Dragons game, now called Invoke Studios (Unreal Engine 5)

    Unreal Engine 5:The Wizards of the Coast has released the first details about one of its upcoming triple-A Dungeons & Dragons games, confirming Dark Alliance developer Tuque Studios will handle development under the new name Invoke Studios.

    In addition to announcing a new studio name, Wizards also revealed that the game will be developed with Unreal Engine 5, which gives us our first indication of the scale of the project.

    According to a Wizards of the Coast press release, Invoke is currently an 80-person strong team led by Dominic Guay, a former Ubisoft producer who was appointed to his role back in May 2021. His most well-known work is as one of the creators of the Watch Dogs series, and in particular as the senior producer of its most popular installment, Watch Dogs 2.

    The Dungeons & Dragons series is the largest and most popular brand of fantasy role-playing games, according to Guay. The history of such a brand, which has been around for more than 50 years, inspires developers and provides us with enormous creative freedom. We will focus on high-quality AAA games and have the resources to accomplish our goals.”

    Despite the lack of information regarding the game’s name, launch date, target platforms, or even whether it will follow the tabletop game or be an RPG, it was confirmed that it will use Unreal Engine 5. The same engine is used in games such as Redfall, Layers of Fears, Ark 2, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, and Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl.

    Invoke’s unnamed D&D game is not its first. It was Tuque’s responsibility to create Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance, which was the first new D&D video game since the ill-fated Sword Coast Legends six years earlier. As a result, Dark Alliance did not fare much better, receiving mixed reviews due to its buggy online play and poor AI. Guay, however, joined Tuque only a month before Dark Alliance’s launch, meaning his involvement in the game was minimal at best.

    As part of Hasbro’s Wizards & Digital division, which was founded in 2021, Invoke is one of many studios currently working under Wizards of the Coast. Atomic Arcade is currently working on a GI Joe game, Hidden Path Entertainment is developing a D&D game, and Skeleton Key and Archetype Entertainment are currently working on unannounced projects.
