Half-Life leak : Recently, Half-Life 2’s Gravity Gun was revealed in prototype form by leaker Richter Overtime. Compared with the final Gravity Gun, the prototype possessed a more ‘60s sci-fi feel, with more exposed and rounded wiring to match Eli Maxwell’s original concept art. The lovable Eli Vance was eventually formed by merging this cut character with another cut character.
With Richter Overtime’s naked model of Eli Vance showing more of his prosthetic implants, we’re learning more about Eli’s early days.
There is no doubt that Eli’s prosthetic leg, modeled after the Flex-Foot line of prosthetics designed by biomedical engineer Van Phillips, is well known. Less well known are the parts of Eli’s body that appear to have been replaced or augmented by artificial components, along with two bands on each arm. Additionally, Eli has several implanted sensors whose wires run across his chest.
Eli lost his leg while attempting to sneak into City 17. As Eli attempted to boost Isaac Kleiner over a barrier, a Bullsquid attacked and consumed Eli’s leg below the knee. It is unclear how Eli sustained his other injuries. The Black Mesa Incident may be to blame, leaving him with heavy burns that require a synthetic replacement. It may have been a result of some other misadventure while leading the City 17 Resistance. It is also possible that there was no story at all and Eli’s character model was simply covered in clothing so that the player could not see the extra prosthetic material covering his body.
Aside from giving us our first glimpse of Eli Vance naked, Richter also provided a model of Dog, the robot companion Vance made to protect his daughter Alyx. The Dog seems to have a more feline appearance than we are accustomed to seeing. A few scrapped enemy concepts are also included, including the Antlion King boss, an earlier Alien Assassin/Breeder mesh, and concept images for a Combine Guard and Birther.
