Hugh Jackman  BEGS Academy to Snub Ryan Reynolds: ‘Don’t Validate Him'”

Hugh Jackman pleaded with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences not to nominate his co-star Ryan Reynolds for the Best Original Song award for the Spirited song “Good Afternoon” as he faced the prospect of a possibly terrifying year spent making Deadpool 3.

“Good Afternoon,” from Reynold’s most recent Christmas movie starring Octavia Spencer and Will Ferrell, was included on the Academy’s shortlist for this year’s Best Original Song award at the end of last year (the nominees themselves won’t be revealed until Jan. 24). However, Jackman appeared to have only just learned about this development after posting a video on social media expressing his concerns (which are technically totally moot, but more on that in a second).

The Wolverine actor asked the Academy not to recommend Ryan Reynolds for an Oscar for Best Original Song in a video message shared on Twitter wishing everyone a happy new year. Soon after, the Deadpool actor answered.

Hugh Jackman, an actor, pleaded with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences not to include Ryan Reynolds’ musical number “Good Afternoon” from the movie Spirited in the Best Original Song category in a video that he shared on Wednesday. He threatened to make Ryan’s life “insufferable” if the Logan actor received a nomination.

As he uploaded a video of himself to the microblogging website, the Logan actor said he wanted to spread a message of hope for the coming year. He stated: “Hello everyone! The year is 2023, and I really, really wanted to start the year off on a good note. But given recent developments, it is now impossible.”

Hugh specifically made fun of Ryan Reynolds, whose song Good Afternoon was included on this year’s Oscar shortlist for Best Original Song, heightening the pretended competition. “Now, if Ryan Reynolds were to receive a nomination for Best Song, my life would become unbearable for the ensuing year. I have to work on [the third] Deadpool [film] with him for a full year. It would not be possible, I assure you. He answered with a dejected expression, “It would be a problem.

To sum up, I adore ‘Spirited,’ I love Will, I love Octavia, I love the song ‘Good Afternoon,’ and I love Benj and Justin. However, I sincerely ask that you refrain from endorsing Ryan Reynolds in this way. Please,” Hugh said at the end of his video. Hugh Jackman intentionally meant Ryan’s nomination to be a disappointment because he has experience in musical theatre. Hugh had recently finished performing as Harold Hill in The Music Man’s Broadway revival. The Greatest Showman, a hit musical movie from 2017, featured the Academy Award-nominated star of another musical, Les Miserables.

Ryan Reynolds swiftly objected to the Logan actor’s remark, reposting the video and tweeting, “Disagree. The deepfakes who sang and danced for Will and I, in my opinion, would adore to perform at the Academy Awards.” As he did neither affirm or deny Wolverine and Deadpool being the title of Deadpool 3, Ryan Reynolds also left some room for speculation.

Hugh Jackman, who is reprising his legendary role as Wolverine, and Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool will engage in a confrontation in Deadpool 3. It will start shooting this year with a November release scheduled for the following year.
